Family Media Nights are postponed until further notice due to the COVID 19 Pandemic.
In our Media Center the students come every week for a 40 minute lesson and book check out. The students can check out the following number of books:
Kindergarten: one book and they keep their library book in their classroom.
First Grade: Two books and they may take them home. They are to choose one book on their AR reading level and one free choice book.
Second Grade: Three books and they may take them home. They are to choose two books on their AR reading level and one free choice book.
When the students take books home they are asked to keep them in their backpacks unless they are reading them this way they always have them at school.
Student AR information
All K-2nd grade students participate in a reading program here at F.E.S. called Accelerated Reader (AR). Basically, the students read a book then take 3-5 question quiz on the story to check their comprehension/recall from the story. The students earn points and the points earn them prizes. AR is available from home this year due to our eLearn population. It is available 7:30 – 4:00 p.m. It is recommended that the students take a quiz on their book within 24 hours of reading it.
Here is how to take a look at your child’s account or take a quiz:
From home, the students will need to go to Polkschoolsfl.com.
- Go to the Students Tab
- On the left side under Quick Links for Students click on Classlink for Students
- Click on Access Classlinks
- Click on Log In
- Student will use their username and password (remind them that this is the log in they use to get on a computer while at school…if they do not know it please contact your child’s teacher for that information).
Click on the Renaissance icon (a big “R”). Click on the orange square titled Renaissance 360. Here you will need the book quiz number or the title of the book. In FES library books it is found in the top corner of the first page in the book. Then follow the directed questions from there.
Information about Home Connect (parents can monitor their child’s AR success from a home computer/phone/tablet) will be sent home with your child’s first report card.
For any assistance or questions regarding AR please call the school and ask for the Media Center.
